Sometime in the early 13th century or before, a man named Everwach called upon Satan to help him in a legal battle against false accusations of embezzlement. Not long after, while stalking a monk with the intention of murdering him, Everwach died suddenly. His new "friend" Satan took him on a tour of hell where he experienced various torments. Fortunately for him, God intervened and sent him back to life and he told of his distressing near-death experience.
This NDE was reported by a monk named Caesarius of Heisterbach in his Dialogue on Miracles - a collection of NDEs, deathbed visions, apparitions, encounters with demonic and divine beings, premonitions, and so on.
